31DC2013: Day 20 Water marbling

Hi lovelies,

If I think galaxy nails is tough, water marbling is tougher. I really respect the nail artist who can water marble well. I just do not have the patience for it :(
But for this challenge, I boldly went where I had never gone before. And the result is this:

I know it is not that neat, but hey, I tried! I know I also smudged one of the fingers topcoating it.  In my defence, I thought it had dried. I really really need to buy some patience from somewhere :)

Colours used:

OPI Alpine Snow (white)
Colorbar Turquoise (88)
Colorbar Quick Finish Bubbly (bright rose pink)

31DC2013: Day 19 Galaxies

Hi lovelies,

I envy people who can get galaxy nails right. I, for one, do not have the patience to sponge on 10 different polishes to achieve the look. While there are many indie polishes that can give a galaxy effect like the one here, I decided against taking the easiest way out.
I decided to take an easier way out :)

I did accent nails by layering a black polish, then using a couple of Revlon polishes, I used the dry brush technique to give the green, blue, purple effect which is more visible in the photo below. Then, I stamped silver stars on it :)

The glitter nails are a black base layered with Different Dimension Wish You Were Here as well as Drops of Jupiter.
If you liked it, do leave a comment below :)

31DC2013: Day 18 Half Moon

Hi lovelies,

I have never done a half-moon manicure before so Day 18 was a challenge. I was in no mood to remove my splendor-ous glitter manicure from the day before, so I worked out something to my satisfaction.
And here it is:

Ain't it festive? I had none of the half moon stickers that people usually use for nail art. And then I got an idea from Wackly Laki's post here. Blogger Anutka used a stamp to create a half-moon. This was better as there was more detailing compared to a simple half-moon. And ta-da!
Anutka at Wacky Laki and Melissa at the DailyNail are two bloggers who have some amazing and amusing half-moon manicures :)
So, if you liked this manicure, do leave a comment below.

31DC2013: Day 17 Glitter

Hi lovelies,

Day 17 is a glitterific challenge. There are very few among us nail art lovers who do not like glitter. Even those with a nude polish fetish love some bling.
My favourite glitter collection among branded polishes remains Color Club 2011 Christmas offering. And in this, my favourites are Sugarplum Fairy (here) and Holiday Splendor.

Isn't it GORGEOUS!!! It has been aptly named Holiday Splendor. This is green and holographic glitter in a squishy green jelly. I love jelly glitters!!! Frankly, this picture does not do justice to how awesome this polish is. Everyone is gaga about China Glaze Atlantis (an aqua jelly glitter), but this beats it hollow in colour and glitterness (is there such a word?).
The opacity is good for a jelly polish. This is just two coats. Since it is loaded with small and micro hex glitters, it dries slightly gritty. Nothing a top coat cannot fix though. Removal is tough like all glitter polishes. I get away by layering it on a peel-off base.
What's most wonderful about it is that it is still available online at many stores :D.
Product: Holiday Splendor
Brand: Color Club
Collection/Range:  Beyond the Mistletoe 2011
Colour: Vibrant green jelly
Finish: gritty
Qty: 17 ml
Price/Availability: $3.10 but can be bought for a discount at certain websites (Not available in India. Can be ordered through Amazon and transdesign)

31DC2013: Day 16 Tribal print

Hi lovelies,

Day 16 of the 31 Day Challenge is tribal nails. While everyone was doing tribal art from America, I wanted to focus on an Indian art form.
Can you guess what it is?

Yes... I chose Warli art (Read below for more on this form).

Ideally, I should have used a brick red background for obvious reasons, but I had just got my hands on this beautiful purple with a reddish golden shimmer (not evident in the pic :() and was compelled to use it. Who knows better than you guys what that feeling is ;).
Since I was running late on this manicure and was already in office, I had no acrylics or brush to paint the design. Aah, well Indians are not known as jugaadus for no reason. I improvised and used a silver gel pen to freehand the design on it. I was not quite sure how the other challengers would view this 'strange' print. To my surprise, it received quite a few likes. Well, what do you know!

Base used:
OPI Dutch Ya Just Love OPI

For design:
Silver gel pen

ABOUT WARLI:
The Warlis or Varlis are an indigenous tribe or Adivasis, living in mountainous as well as coastal areas of Maharashtra-Gujarat border and surrounding areas. They have their own animistic beliefs, life, customs and traditions, as a result of acculturation they have adopted many Hindu beliefs.
In the book The Painted World of the Warlis Yashodhara Dalmia claimed that the Warlis carry on a tradition stretching back to 2500 or 3000 BCE. Their mural paintings are similar to those done between 500 and 10,000 BCE in the Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, in Madhya Pradesh.
Their extremely rudimentary wall paintings use a very basic graphic vocabulary: a circle, a triangle and a square.Their paintings were monosyllbic. The circle and triangle come from their observation of nature, the circle representing the sun and the moon, the triangle derived from mountains and pointed trees. Only the square seems to obey a different logic and seems to be a human invention, indicating a sacred enclosure or a piece of land.

31DC2013: Day 15 Delicate Print

Hi lovelies,

My net is back up (for now) and I will finish putting up the challenges I've met. Day 15 of the 31 Day Challenge by Chalkboard Nails is Delicate Print.
Here's my take:

I love how simple and elegant this print is. A pink base with white stamping would have really brought the delicateness to fore. But then, pink and me? Yeah right ;)
So, what do you think about this manicure? Don't forget to write your views.

31DC2013: Day 14 Flowers

Hi lovelies,

Day 14 of the 31 Day Challenge is about Flowers. Since I totally loved the neon I used for stamping for the previous two days, I continued using it for this work.

I totally fell in love with this design. I brought the first Bundlemonster set just for the half-flower design you see on all my fingers. And then, of course, I sat on it till today.
I also singled out a rose from another Bundlemonster set to tie it up with the base polish.
The base is a beautiful indie polish by Lush Lacquer. It is called Rosies Posies, a white crelly with bar and hex glitters of various sizes in neon green and pink. Goes perfectly with the theme doesn't it?

Colours used:
Base: Lush Lacquer Rosies Posies

For stamping:
Polish: Colorbar Bloody Mary (neon pinkish red)

31DC2013: Day 13 Animal Print

Hi lovelies,

Day 13 of Chalkboard Nails' 31 Day Challenge brought in animal prints. I am not much for animal prints, but I loved the combination of colours I ended up with.

I stamped a zebra print using a neon pink red on a clean dove grey background. I also randomly picked out black, white and hot pink glitters in square and rectangle from various polishes because I am hugely lusting after Glam Polish Bricks and Blocks. I wish Australia would lift its ban on international shipping of polishes. I really need that polish in my life, like right now!
Thankfully, you guys will understand my obsession :)
So, don't forget to leave a line on whether this manicure is to your liking.

31DC2013: Day 12 Stripes

Hi lovelies,

As you can see from the header, the theme for Day 12 of the 31 Day Challenge was stripes.
This is the manicure I ended up with. Though a little complicated, I liked the design a lot. I'll definitely try this again.

I used a black base and then painted on stripes using white acrylic paint and coloured polishes. I also tried one without the base. My thumb, if you look carefully. I liked both looks.
Hope you liked it, too.

VoV Blackberry (black creme)

Colorbar Bloody Mary (neon pinkish red)
Zoya Mitzi (matte chartreuse green)

31DC2013: Day 11 Polka Dots

Hi lacqueraders,

Day 11 of the 31 Day Challenge thrown by Chalkboard Nails is polka dots. And with that the image that comes to mind is Minni Mouse. But I had already done my share of MM nails. Therefore, I decided to take up something different.
I had once seen a manicure and loved it. I cannot recollect the blogger's name but shall link it as soon as I find a clue. And this is my version of the nails.

Isn't it pretty?
The base is OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh, a clean creamy putty shade that does flatter my dusky Indian skin. The polka gradients are Colorbar Pro, a glowy purple, Deborah Milano Sense Tech 10, a shimmery matte blue, and China Glaze Running in Circles, a glassfleck grassy green.

P.S. There is a group I belong to on Facebook called the Indian Lacquer Lovers. This submission also goes for their theme of the week: Polka Dots. #ILLnailchallenge

31DC2013: Day 10 Gradient

Hi lovelies,

The tenth day of my 31 Day Challenge threw up the theme of Gradients. I thought of sponging one, the most common way of getting gradient nails. Till, it struck me that I could use something really beautiful for this nail art.
So, this is what I came up with.

This is Inglot 204 (blue flakie near cuticle)  and NYX Peach Ave (golden flakies near the tips) layered over a coat of Colorbar Exclusive 76, a basic black. I just dabbed them on to create the gradient effect.
This is the mattified look. Doesn't it look gorgeous?
If you follow my blog regularly, you will be well acquainted with my internet woes.  So I continue to use my Instagram picture to keep the posts short.
Liked this manicure? If you did, please leave a comment below. I would like to read your thoughts :)

31DC2013: Day 9 Rainbow

Hi lovelies,

Day 9 of the 31 Day Challenge by Chalkboard Nails is Rainbows! And what could be more exciting than that? I loved the theme but had no idea how to go about it. There are so many rainbow manicures out there... Finally, I landed on this one.

This is inspired by a Maryammaquillage.com manicure that I found on Pinterest. I used fabric/acrylic colours for this art as I did not want to go about mixing polishes for the correct shade. Also, acrylics are easier to work with. Err... the single piece of glitter you see on my middle finger was floating in my top coat and landed exactly in the middle of the nail. So, I did not bother removing it.
This manicure grabbed a lot of eyeballs. And has been my best effort so far. Do you agree with me? Don't forget to leave a comment below :)

31DC2013: Day 8 Metallic

Hi,

A week of the 31 Day Challenge thrown by Chalkboard Nails is over. The theme for day 8 is metallic.

I used only Revlon polishes for this one. The base is Aqua Divine, two coats of a teal shimmery base, on which I stamped using Gilded Chrome.
What is your opinion about this? Don't forget to write :)

Polish: Revlon Aqua Divine from its Street Wear Shine collection

31DC2013: Day 7 Black and White

Hi,

It has been over a week since the 31 day challenge was thrown by Chalkboard Nails. And I have managed to complete them so far. Thanks for sticking with me guys :)
The theme for the seventh day is black and white nails. For this, I again turned to Missy Barry and her beautiful creations. This time, I used Different Dimension's Drops of Jupiter -- a black jelly base with star, circle and square silver holographic glitter. It is a galaxy on your nails!

Isn't this awesomeness! Since it was a black and white challenge, I stamped some arrows and stars on it using Konad White.
How did you like my take on B&W? Do drop a line.

31DC2013: Day 6 Violet

Hi,

Day 6 theme for 31 Day Challenge is violet. I have to make a clarification here, I posted another manicure on Instagram. I used Color Club Sugarplum Fairy in the photo on IG. You'll realise why soon.

This is Chirality Polish Raisin Gein from her Cereal Killer collection. It is a milky white base full of various sizes and shades of violet and purple matte/shiny/holo glitter and microglitter. I not only committed the foolishness of trying it on its own without a solid base, I also used my OPI Rapidcoat to dry the polish. And it bubbled like crazy as you can spot on my middle finger.

I am definitely going to redo this polish so you can see how beautiful it is! Love the large matte glitters and the holo glitters that twinkle, oh so delicately.
My goof apart, did you like this polish? And my take on the challenge?

31DC2013: Day 5 Blue

Hi!

Day 5 of the 31 Day Challenge is blue. The night before I received a parcel from Different Dimensions. And it had just what I wanted to meet the challenge.

I had an early morning movie date and in my hurry, I managed to damage my manicure as you can clearly see here. Nevertheless, I fell in love with the polish. Who can resist circle glitters after all!
The polish on my pinky and pointer is Deborah Milano Sense Tech 10, a beautiful shimmery matte blue. Since I didn't want to topcoat it, I couldn't smooth out the damage.
The polish on the remaining fingers is Different Dimension Never Grow Up. This is a white crelly base filled with blue shimmer and several sizes of blue and silver circle, square, and hex glitters -- some of them holographic. Since the crelly was bluish white, I layered it over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, a white tinged with grey.
Did you like this take on blue? Do drop a line :)

31DC2013: Day 4 Green

Hi!

The theme for the 31 Day Challenge thrown by Chalkboard Nails is green. For this, I decided to go matte. There is texture and there is glitter, too.
Check this out:

The pinky and pointer sport China Glaze Winter Holly, a green textured polish. My middle and ring finger show off K B Shimmer Get Clover It -- medium circle glitters in gold, lime green and dark green in a dark green jelly.
I mattified it using Essie Matte About You topcoat. Ain't it gorgeous?!
Are you liking my take on the challenges so far? Don't forget to comment.

31DC2013: Day 3 Yellow

Hi lovelies,

I have got my internet for a while, so I am grabbing this chance to upload as many pictures of the challenge as possible. To ease my life, and put less load on my Internet, I am reposting my pictures from Instagram, so please bear with me.
Day 3 was yellow, a colour I sport very reluctantly. But I really really loved what I ended up with. Want a look? Here...

Isn't it gorgeous? The base is a pastel yellow which I have layered with Lush Lacquer Freckles -- small neon matte glitters in orange, purple, hot pink, green and blue. I could be missing a couple of colours here.
I am glad I layered this polish over a pastel instead of white. It was a beauty alright!
Once the challenge is over, I promise to swatch and review all the glitters and indie polishes I will be showing along the way :)
Would you like that?

31DC2013: Day 2 Orange

Hi lovelies,

The second day of the 31 day challenge by Chalkboard Nails was themed orange. I had posted my manicure on Instagram and since I haven't been able to get my internet up and working, I got delayed in posting this on my blog.
Currently, the only way out is the use the instagram picture to sort out my troubles.

The base is Milani HD, a scattered silver holographic polish, over which I brushed on an orange crackle polish. I spotted a bunch of crackle polishes and brought quite a few colours. However, the first coat made me realise that it wasn't a look I loved. So, everything went to storage. Thankfully, the orange saved the day. It is actually a neony orange. However, I did not layer it over white so it did not 'pop' much. Which suited me just fine.
What do you think about it?

31DC2013 Day 1: Red

Hello lovelies,

Today is the first day of the 31 day challenge. The theme is red. If you have been following my blog, you'll know I do not like red much. But I cannot get away from the fact that this colour does look good on me.
Well, for those who do love the colour, here's a treat.

This is a basic red polish, layered with NFU-Oh 44, an orange jelly packed with gold-orange-green flakies. I am keeping this post short as my internet issues haven't been sorted out yet.
I already posted this manicure on my Instagram account @indianlacquerade so that I am still in the challenge.
If my net acts up, I shall upload the posts whenever it is working. But do follow me on Instagram to check my progress :)
Here's another picture so you can see how squishy this beauty is

Check out other participants on Instagram under #31dc2013. Cheers!
